Yoshiro Mori, the head of the Tokyo Olympics organizing committee acknowledged and apologized for making “inappropriate” comments about women, after the rumours of his resignation.
Mr Mori remorses for his comments but informed that he was not planning to step down.
The comments for which the 83-year-old games’ chief made were that women talk too much. Moreover, he added that meeting with the female board directors will take too much time.
The issue has been considered “closed” according to the International Olympic Committee. Still, Japans current Olympic minister Ms Seiko Hashimoto, said she wanted to have words with the former Japanese prime minister Mr Mori herself.
She told the local media how Mr Moris words were against the Olympic games’ spirit as their fundamental principle is to promote women’s advancement in sport at all the levels. In addition, they’re looking organizations for improvement and help people realize gender equality.
It is also the same Committee which selected the Japanese Olympians intending to increase female board directors to at least 40%.
History of offending statements
This is not new to the former Prime minister as he had made offending statements before. A trending hashtag was started for Mr Mori saying #Moriresign on Twitter.
When asked why he said such comments, he responded that he doesn’t talk to any women much. Thus he didn’t know it would be offensive. He told that his daughter and granddaughter even scolded him regarding this.
Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga also remarked that such comments should not have been made.
