TikTok Tip #1
Don’t let common misconceptions hold you back; ‘I’m too old for the app’, ‘I can’t dance’, or ‘I’m not funny or creative’. At the end of the day, these are all excuses. There are people of all ages on the app, it’s not just for teenagers. You don’t have to do a single dance if you don’t want to. And you don’t have to be funny or even super creative in order to be successful on TikTok. Insider tip: you simply have to be YOU!
TikTok Tip #2
Niche down and get to know your ideal audience. You should have a solid understanding of what it is you do, who you help, and how you help them through your content. The clearer you are on these answers, the faster you’ll grow and, more importantly, the more loyal your community will become.
TikTok Tip #3
When it comes to the type of content you create, have a mix of both calendar content and evergreen content. Calendar content is TIMELY content, and is great for quick and easy engagement. Content around timely events, and trending content (which is a super important part of TikTok) fit under this category. Evergreen content is LONG TERM content that is relevant now, in a month, in six months, and beyond! These types of videos are great for ‘long term’ views, since videos on TikTok have the potential for a much longer lifetime than a platform like Instagram. Try to think of evergreen content in the form of education (how-to’s, tutorials, or hacks) and motivation (telling stories, giving advice, or showing transformations).
TikTok Tip #4
The most important metrics on TikTok are your retention (how long someone watches your video) and re-watch rates (how many times someone re-watches your video). In order to retain someone, be sure to ‘hook’ people into your video by making the first 3 seconds interesting, enticing, and clear. To promote a higher re-watch rate, it’s ideal to keep your videos between 11-17 seconds.
TikTok Tip #5
Show up consistently. Posting at least once a day is ideal. If you can do more than that, great job!
TikTok Tip #6
Treat your profile as if it were a content portfolio. It should be a range of all that you can offer to your niche, whether it’s educational, motivational, or entertaining. Your ideal follower, or if you’re a business, your ideal client, should come across your page and want to completely binge on your content due to the immense value you give them.
TikTok Tip #7
Keep in mind that whilst going viral is fun, it’s not the goal. The goal is to create valuable content that has a positive impact on other people, so that you can create and build relationships which turn into a loyal community. If you happen to go viral in the process, awesome! But make sure you lay down the foundation first in order to reap the benefits.
Being a business owner can be one of the most stressful things you’ll ever experience, especially living in the rapidly changing environment of social media. If you follow Jera’s TikTok tips however, your social media marketing strategy will definitely not be in that category, in fact it may just become one of the most fun and rewarding things you ever do.
