Businesses of all types are slowly reopening across California with of course new restrictions and safety precautions being put into place. But there is one company that is inserting artificial intelligence into the equation and helping businesses keep their staff and consumers safe from COVID-19 and other viruses much easier and faster than ever before!
The RapidScreen Temperature Kiosk is a cutting edge advanced thermometer and facial scanning system that quickly screens people for their temperature and other symptoms with COVID-19. The system is FDA recommended to safely open businesses such as workplaces, theatres, gyms, schools, etc., and adheres to CDC and EEOC Guidelines.
The man behind the technology is Pouya Hashemi, who was actually one of the first confirmed cases of COVID-19 here in the United States, and who survived, and now lives in Southern California. We spoke more to him about how his product and technology is a game-changer as we deal with COVID-19 and reopening businesses to get back to normal!
Tell us about RapidScreen and how you came up with it?
RapidScreen is a temperature screening kiosk designed to safely help businesses reopen during this COVID-19 pandemic. Our thermal scanner detects the user’s temperature indicating if they have a fever or not. RapidScreen also offers many other functionalities for efficient day to day business operations such as mask detection, access control, and more. As one of the firsts victims of this deadly coronavirus, I made it my mission to find a way to help others by preventing the spread and allowing businesses to open up safely. Not only did this virus impact my health, but my businesses began to suffer and I needed to make some changes to pivot my business strategies to stay up to date with everything happening in the world today.
California has a lot of new regulations in place during COVID-19. How does RapidScreen fit into these and what has the response by businesses been, and the FDA?
With new updates in local guidelines daily, screening for COVID-19 by regulating temperature has always been recommended by the FDA to reopen businesses. RapidScreen also adheres to the CDC’s official guidelines for mitigation and the EEOC. As many businesses began to realize manual temperature devices are not as efficient, require manual labor, have limited functionalities, and break the social distancing guideline, we’ve come up with the solution. With our contactless, coronavirus screening temperature kiosk users simply step up to the display, and within 3 seconds their temperature has been indicated.
Which businesses in California can we find your screening kiosks in?
Our RapidScreen thermometer is currently being used to screen for COVID-19 in a variety of industries and government institutions. Some local California customers include Rialto PD, Johnson & Johnson, Cypress Cemetery, City of Rancho Cucamonga, and many more. We are also currently in a pilot program with the City of Los Angeles this month to be looked at for all their city buildings.
What trends in the technology marketplace do you see happening moving forward?
It is important to focus our efforts on seamless user experiences. Similar to the RapidScreen temperature kiosk, the user experience is quick and contactless. On the back end, we have integrated technology for the businesses to track users, view activity, and much more through our easy to manage software. As many businesses will continue to heavily rely on technology, trends will continue expanding in human to computer interaction. Devices will implement a voice-user interface (VUI) giving users a “human” interaction with computers through speech recognition to understand spoken commands and answer questions. We can also expect to continue focusing efforts on augmented reality technology.

What’s on the horizon for RapidScreen and your company?
As we are constantly finding new ways to integrate our technology with tools and resources to help day to day business operations, we expect RapidScreen to continue to evolve with us. As cases continue to rise, I need to express and preach preventative safety measures to businesses who are reopening. Even in the coming years, we hope to utilize our RapidScreen technology to not only prevent the spread of viruses such as COVID-19 but also reduce the spread of illnesses like the flu or common cold.
